The convention "Siege of Augusta" is being held this weekend. Sponsored by the U.S. Army Recruiting Command and HMGS-MidSouth. The event is scheduled for January 23rd through the 25th and has 85 events and 35 dealer tables. It will be held at the Doubletree Inn in Augusta Georgia.
This is great entertainment value. The people running this show are top notch. I looked through the events and there are a lot I would personally love to attend. So get on over to Augusta and roll some dice!
Many thanks to Pat Condray for reminding us we haven't put anything up on the web about this convention and to Bob Moon who painted the figures and assembled the terrain you see below!
I got this note from a game master about discussing what games people would like to see at Nashcon.
"Nashcon is in about four months and I need to get started on whatever new/modified terrain I want to build. My problem is that I have a dozen things I could do, and I’m having problems deciding on which one(s). Now, it occurs to me that I’m probably not the only one that is trying to decide what to set up/build, and I have a whole club full of guys that probably have games they would like to see there.
"So I propose we make a nice little list here on our blog. I, and I’m sure other referees, would like to know what games you’d like to see at the next Nashcon. I’ll even start the list off by asking someone to please do some Wings of War when I don’t have something I’m running."
As for Wings of War I always have that with me. Series I and II fit in a single, easy to cary tub along with all the counters, cards, rules, etc. I ran pickup games at the last Nashcon and really enjoyed them. Anyone should be able to make comments on this article so please feel free to address the above question. Thanks!
For our first game of the new year, Bob put on an "historical" game of Arthur, post-Roman. The game is based on a battle from Bernard Cornwell’s trilogy about Arthur. Here is the intro from the Amazon review of the books:
The third novel in the Warlords Chronicle, Excalibur: A Novel of Arthur immerses the reader in the Britain of the Dark Ages. Merlin, the greatest of the Druids, believes that the ancient gods are deserting Britain, and that the invading Saxons can't be defeated without the gods' help. Mordred reigns with a brutal hand, and Arthur sees his dreams of peace evaporate. The author provides exciting descriptions of swordplay and battles, interspersed with somewhat gruesome depictions of ordinary life in those days--greasy, waist-length beards serving as napkins, lambs bloodily sacrificed before festivals, and rampant lice.
Duncan provided everything but the lice. The Saxon’s ( with me in partial command) were hot after Arthur. We attacked his shield wall and I killed Arthur in man-to-man combat. Not really. A darn trick by Merlin. Wasn’t really Arthur. He attacked our rear causing us to split our troops and failing our objective.
GREAT rules made up by Friar Duncan. A mixture of 28mm troops in the man cave as part of our monthly wargame retreat in mid-Tennessee.
Dogs of War !!!!
The Shield WALL ~~~~~~~
Gerrald Swick is Merlin. The pensive fellow in mustache, glasses, and goatee is Bryant Williams.
The handsome fellow in mustache and ball cap in a single photo is Uncle Bob Duncan himself. Our wargame group grew by three members. In the group shot above you will seefrom your left to right: Albert Domm, Tony Staggs and Tom Price. Seated in the center of the photograph (in glasses) is our grandfather: Major Bill Harting.
